Springer was born on February 13, 1944, in London, England, but his family emigrated to the United States when he was a child. He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in political science and later earned a law degree from the same university.
After practicing law for a few years, Springer entered politics and was elected to the Cincinnati City Council in 1971. He was later elected mayor of Cincinnati in 1977, but his political career was cut short when he was caught in a scandal involving paying a prostitute with a personal check.
In the 1980s, Springer became a television commentator and hosted a talk show in Cincinnati before launching “The Jerry Springer Show” in 1991. The show became infamous for its controversial content and was criticized for exploiting its guests and promoting sensationalism.
Despite the criticisms, “The Jerry Springer Show” was a huge success and aired for 27 seasons before ending in 2018. Springer has also made several appearances in movies and television shows, including “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” and “Dancing with the Stars.”
